On January 26' 2011 we lost a good friend and fellow rider.
Brian was known to you all as a great bike enthusiast and lover of animals. He dedicated the last years of his life to helping animals in need. He gave endlessly to the animals he loved so well. When he became ill and his own business was struggling he continued to help an animal in need. He gave everything to save a life and drove himself into great debt to save all that he could. He was selfless in his desire to save as many as he could.
Those of you that rode with us knew that he always put these animals above the rest of us. We would always wait on Brian as he always had to feed, water or just pet the animals before going on any ride. Yes that was with me too.
I accepted long ago that even I placed below his cats. :)
I would often turn the tables and place him below my dogs. Fair is fair. :)
Years ago Brian drafted a Will and this is part of what he wrote:
" Firstly I would like to say to ask that everyone bare this one thing in mind, my thoughts will be with you all forever, so please do not be too sad because in essence I will be always be around you. I had a wonderful life which thanks to my health, the start that I was given by my family and the help and support I received from you all through the years enabled me to see and experience more things than most people would see in a ten lifetimes. I wish more people could be as fortunate as I was and with the exception of two things, spending more time with all of you and being able to give more to less fortunate people and especially animals, I would not change a single thing if I was to live it all over again.
So please do not feel sad for me, because except for a few hardships I enjoyed my life to the fullest and I have no complaints."
Brian and I started Ride 4 Pets in 2000 and I will continue with our dream. I may be absent at the bike shows this year as it is too hard dealing with this loss. I will strive to be back at the shows and we will continue to save as many animals as we can.
We are asking those of you that knew him or admire what he gave through his life to remember him with a donation of any amount to Ride 4 Pets so that we can continue his dream. This will help with the amounts we owe now and to help others in the future.
His ashes have been returned to South Africa to be interred with his dad but his spirit remains with all of us, those who loved him, those who were his friends, those who rode with him and of course those who shared his deep love of animals.
